Moray is home to the most photographed circular farming terraces. They resemble the Roman amphitheatre. The farming terraces of Moray are a testament to the advancement to the Incas farming techniques.
This was more of an agricultural laboratory to Incas. As the terraces bear different temperatures at each level, it helped Incas to determine the best weather condition required to grow crops. This is the reason why the country now produces over 800 varieties of potatoes.
The Salt mines of Maras have been in use since pre Inca times. It is passed down in the line of succession. The Salt flats are owned by locals, from the community. They maintain their age-old traditions and continue to extract salt using the traditional Solar evaporation method.
Salt of maras is known for its pinkish colour and has a distinct taste.

Excellent trip to see the Maras and Moray of the Sacred Valley of Incas off the Cusco city. The tour was conducted very nicely and the guide was well informed with a plenty of knowledge and experience. I can totally recommend this to see and get a good overview of Maras and Moray in the Sacred Valley of Incas

The Moray archeological site and the Maras salt mines are a must see if you have a spare day or half day in Cusco.
This tour company had a very good bilingual guide who made sure that as the only English speakers in a group of ~14 people, that we were looked after.
Comfortable bus ride, plenty of explanations and interesting observations from the guide, and the sites themselves are stunning. Note: Maras is best visited in dry season (when the salt is more visible) but still very impressive in the wet season (just pick a dry day!)
It was a dream come true visiting the Sacred Valley of Incas. Heidi Travels team organised this very smoothly and efficiently. The guide was just amazing with an incredible knowledge and interest in explaining things. I had a tremendous time. Thanks Heidi Travels.
