Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain Tour Details

The full day Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain Tour is the best alternative to those not keen on hiking the Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain. Just as Machu Picchu, Rainbow Mountain tops the bucket list of many travellers while visiting Cusco.

This full day tour is an easier option. Unlike the trek to Vinicunca, the trip to Palccoyo begins at 0700 AM. We will be driving you closer to the summit. It just takes a 45 minutes of gradual hike through some picturesque highlands including the Stone Forest (Bosque de piedras).

This is a high altitude experience. We highly recommend you to spend at least two days in Cusco before the trek to avoid altitude sickness. To offer you the best experience, we operate this in small groups. We also offer private tours to Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain

The best time to visit Palccoyo Rainbow Mountains is during the dry season April to November. During the rainy season the trail gets slippery and often the colors of Palccoyo are covered in fog.

Why Heidi Travel Peru?

Itinerary

Day 1Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain - Palccoyo Cusco

We will be picking you up from your hotel in Cusco at 0700 AM. Then in our private transport we will be driving you along the South Valley of Cusco to Checacupe. It is a small colonial town. The town houses a colonial church and a rope bridge that was built by Spanish conquistadors resembling Q’eswachaka.

Here we will be stopping so you can use the restrooms and buy some snacks if desired. From here, we will be driving off the road up the hill, closer to the summit of Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain. On our way, we will be passing through some remote communities and schools. This tour offers a closer interaction with the untouched remote communities.

Once at the summit, we will be gradually hiking for 45 minutes to reach the summit. On our way, we will be passing through the stone forest or bosque de piedras. This is a unique sight. You will also get a closer look at the mighty Ausangate Peak that dominates the southern skyline of Cusco on a clear day.

Once you have had your fill of the stunning views of the Ausangate Mountain range and Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain, we will start our descend to the car park. From here, we will be driving you back to Checaupe. Here we will be stopping at a local restaurant for lunch. After lunch, we will be driving you back to Cusco.

Felt very easier on this trip up to see the Rainbow Mountains, the view is stunning and i loved tha fact that there wasn´t a much of hike and instead they drove almost to the top from where the mountain was just a 15-20 minutes walk away. They also included lunch after the tour at a local restaurant.

Heidi Travels was very helpful and showed a great care while we went to the Rainbow Mountains. Saul the guide was fantastic. He gave us a lot of stories and facts. The best part of the trip was that we were piekced up at 0700 AM and we visited an anciient Inca Bridge on the way. They then drove to thhe top of the hill from where we had to hike a bit till we reached the seven coloured mountain. Saul never rushed us and we had our own time. It was a very nice experience and all thanks to Heidi and her team.
